Position Summary:
Under moderate supervision, assists in loading large waste collection vehicles for the collection and disposal of university waste or operates non‑CDL vehicles such as box trucks or stake bodies to collect various waste and surplus materials throughout campus.

Duties and Responsibilities
Hook up and/or operate compactors, waste receptacles, and dumpsters throughout campus.
Work with supervisor and mechanics to maintain scheduled preventive maintenance on vehicle or other equipment.
Operate the vehicle in accordance with all local, municipal, state, and federal laws.
Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned equipment and document inspections using a standard Vehicle Inspection Report.
Assist the Waste Collection Truck Driver in performing scheduled preventive maintenance on compactors and truck.
Immediately report any unsafe situations to supervisor or Public Safety.
Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings required by the University.
Work closely with supervisor to improve route efficiency and identify best practices.
Follow route assignments as directed and complete any required documentation.
Immediately notify supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
Notify supervisor of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, street, alleyways, or potential safety hazards.
Identify and report all containers in need of repair or replacement.
Perform any necessary housekeeping in and around trash enclosures, truck, or other equipment.
Carry out all job duties as defined under other job classifications normally assigned to the Grounds Division, such as Gardener.
Perform other duties assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities and the individual’s capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and documentation indicating current successful completion of formal training classes or programs in sustainable materials management, defensive driving for commercial vehicles, or demonstrate acceptable life experiences in waste collections and transportation.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have and maintain a valid State driver’s license.
Must be able to meet requirements for University insurance.
Must possess or successfully obtain and maintain DOT medical certification.
Must possess or successfully obtain and maintain a CDL Class A or B with air‑brake endorsement and meet all University driving policy requirements within 6 months of accepting the position. Failure to qualify will result in a demotion to an appropriate level not requiring operation of a University vehicle.
Ability to follow both verbal and written directions.
Ability to interact with customers (students, faculty, administration) in a positive and helpful manner.
Must be able to climb ladders, bend and reach, and lift up to 60 lbs.
At least three years of successful work experience in a laboring position.
Minimum of two years of service in the trade at Villanova University (upon discretion of Facilities Management).
Must not have any disciplinary actions on file within the previous twelve months of applying for this position.

Physical Requirements and Unusual Work Hours Work under adverse weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold. Work will include response to weather conditions at any hour of day or night when notified.
