Position Summary In close collaboration with the Director of Research Services and Scholarly Engagement, the Managing Librarian for Liaison Services & Theology Librarian contributes to the development and delivery of strategic, high‑quality programs and services at Falvey Library to advance teaching, learning, research, and scholarship. The Managing Librarian serves as the library’s expert on research, learning culture, and information practices in the field of theology. The position will be filled as a Librarian II or III, depending on qualifications and experience.
Core Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate general research support services in coordination with the Director of Research Services and Scholarly Engagement. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff. Implement an active outreach program to ensure awareness of library services. Communicate and advocate for community resource needs.
Support and manage liaison librarians; foster an inclusive, respectful, collegial environment. Provide professional development and mentorship to staff.
Contribute to departmental efforts, including program development, promotion, assessment, and cross‑training initiatives.
Lead and contribute to strategic initiatives of the Research Services and Scholarly Engagement department, Falvey Library, and professional organizations.
Manage other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education
MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA‑accredited institution, or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
Work Experience
3+ years of professional experience in research support, information literacy instruction and resource selection in an academic library or equivalent experience.
Work Skills
Collaborative problem‑solving across organizational boundaries.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Experience developing research‑level collections in assigned disciplines.
Understanding of discipline‑specific research and scholarly communication practices.

Equipment Knowledge
Proficiency with a wide array of software applications, including CMS, ILS, patron‑oriented communication and scheduling software, commercial databases, and presentation software.
Proficiency with MS Office products.

Formal Education
Second advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
Work Experience
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in collection work, information literacy instruction, and research support.
1+ year of personnel management experience.
Work Skills
Transparent and inclusive leadership style.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking up to 4 hours at a time, frequent bending and lifting. Able to lift up to 30 lbs. and push/pull a 4‑wheel book truck weighing 50–100 lbs. Occasional stair climbing.
Work Hours
Library open 90+ hours a week. Evening, weekend, holiday work may be required.
Schedules may vary during semester and summer sessions.
