Special Education Resource Room / Noon Recess Building Paraeducator – Long Meadow Elementary School

Schedule:
Monday – Friday, following the traditional 2025‑26 school year calendar (5.5 hours per day, 5 days per week)
Salary:
$15.94 per hour (Instructional Classification Schedule; RPEA Master Agreement)
Qualifications
High School Diploma
Completed at least two years of higher education in an approved program (transcripts required), or received an Associate's or higher degree (transcripts required), or passed a state or local test demonstrating knowledge and ability in subject area (e.g., ETS ParaPro Assessment or MTTC-Professional Readiness Exam)
Experience with students with disabilities and/or training in appropriate techniques for interacting with students with disabilities (preferred)
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to interact appropriately and effectively with students, parents, and staff
Excellent attendance record, flexibility, and competence for assigned responsibilities, including ability to meet the physical and academic needs of students
Minimum typing skills of 60–65 wpm
Successful completion of district‑provided training modules needed to perform daily captioning
Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance required
Responsibilities
Takes direction for timely program delivery from building staff members responsible for student learning plans (resource teacher, program teacher, teacher consultant, ancillary staff, and/or general education classroom teacher)
Assists in accordance with students’ learning programs with orientation, reading, music, art, physical education, and other curriculum tasks
Follows through with prescribed behavioral management programs
Assists with development of instructional materials, demonstrating initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementation, when appropriate
Assists with physical mobility – from bus to building and back – and supports students’ self‑care and personal hygiene, including toileting, feeding, catheterization, tube feeding, monitoring of medical support devices
Participates in physical activities that may be part of students’ programs, including lunch, recess, art, and/or physical education
Reports successes and difficulties with student learning plans to the appropriate special educator in an informative, timely, and professional manner
Assists teachers with routine classroom operations such as distributing and putting away materials, preparing bulletin boards, writing lessons on the board, and maintaining instructional materials and supplies
Supervises and assists students during activities outside the classroom
Performs other duties as assigned by special educators or the building principal
Reports To Building or Program Administrator; receives day‑to‑day direction from classroom teacher, resource teacher, or teacher consultant
