CAMP COOK JOB DESCRIPTION Camp Cook positions are open at this beautiful 300-acre camp in Oracle, Arizona, just north of Tucson. On-campus housing is available, if desired, which includes utilities (optional). This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities, at the Triangle YMCA Ranch Camp and Retreat Center. The Cook is responsible for providing high quality food, dining, and cleaning/sanitation services for the Triangle Y Ranch Camp & Retreat Center within budgeted guidelines. This position will be involved with many tasks that go into the well-being of the staff and campers while adhering to safety systems and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CAMP COOK

Completes activities of food preparation, kitchen organization, pantry restocking, dish washing, and equipment sanitation.

Models excellent customer service to provide a welcoming environment for all staff, members, and guests by following customer service best practices.

Effectively engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds.

Assists in planning menus and snacks, preparing and apportioning foods, and utilizing food surpluses and leftovers.

Assists with the maintenance and cleaning of kitchen, dining, and stockroom areas and equipment to ensure a healthy and safe environment.

Performs opening, set-up, closing, tear-down, and side work of necessary equipment.

Assists in ensuring specified number of servings to be made from any vegetable, fruit, protein, grain, beverage, and dessert to control portion costs.

Operate industrial kitchen equipment.

Acts to maintain safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout the facility with priority to assigned area.

Knowledgeable and adept about the rules and guidelines for food handling.

Empty and clean trash receptacles.

Clean iced tea, coffee, and milkshake machines.

Rotate dishes to reduce wear and tear on resources.

Clean up spills and broken glassware immediately.Report all sanitation or janitorial issues to appropriate party.

Maintain professional manner and appearance.

Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high‑risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Attends all relevant training meetings and training events.

Follows all YMCA procedures, policies, guidelines, and protocols.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS OF A KITCHEN ASSISTANT

At Least 18 years of age.

Posses an Arizona Food Handler Certificate

Current CPR, AED, & First Aid certifications or completion within thirty days of hire.

Current Arizona fingerprint clearance card

Completion of YMCA online training upon date of hire and periodically thereafter.

High school diploma or GED required. Culinary degree or culinary professional training preferred.

At least six months of relevant experience working with large group cafeteria and/or family‑style service.

Excellent Customer service skills.

Display a positive attitude toward children, families, and staff with a willingness to help other and demonstrate good communication skills.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
