Base pay range $19.00/hr - $24.00/hr
Summary The Burlington Children's Space is seeking an Early Childhood Educator to work as part of a co‑teaching team in a looping classroom (infant/toddlers or preschool).
A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Human Development is required, a State License in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
This position includes health insurance, paid sick and vacation hours, and professional development opportunities. We work collaboratively with the Howard Center as part of a Therapeutic Child Care partnership, with Head Start and Early Head Start and participate in a new initiative connecting residents at the UVM Medical School with early childhood programs. We have a fabulous food program supported by local farms and our own garden plot.
The Burlington Children's Space, housed in the McClure Multi‑Generational Center, is an economically and culturally diverse NAEYC-accredited program offering early care and education for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Programming is based on influences from Reggio Emilia, Italy, the interests and curiosities of the children, and the unique culture and resources of our local community. The Burlington Children's Space is dedicated to serving all populations and tuition is based on a sliding scale.
Teachers at Burlington Children Space are a group of highly passionate and fun-loving individuals. We have the opportunity to go on trips to:

These trips are funded by individual classroom funds from our annual Silent Auction. If you dream it, we can make it work!
In the classroom, teachers have the freedom to set up their classroom and create developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the children's interests and the teachers' passions. The sky is the limit! Currently the walls of our classrooms are covered with self portraits, huge painted canvases, tree cookie sculptures, pictures of children running through sprinklers, gardening and baking bread.

Duties This is a 40 hour, full year position. Co‑teachers are responsible for planning and implementing curriculum based on the interests and development of the children. Co‑teachers complete assessments using Teaching Strategies Gold, working in partnership with Head Start. The classroom team meets weekly for planning and at least monthly to develop individualized care plans and implementation strategies with the Howard Center, EEE or VFN and Head Start staff. All classrooms participate in parent engagement activities using the Strengthening Families Framework; these include family dinners, open house, curriculum night, and engaging families in curriculum related to their interests.
Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Human Development is required, a State License in Early Childhood Education appreciated!
Must hold a work visa prior to applying, if from out of the US.
Nice To Haves BCS is looking for an educator who has experience, and deep interest in working in a therapeutic child care center with program supports, such as reflective consultation, care plans (strategize and implementing approaches in the classroom in collaboration with service providers and BCS supervisors), planning for curriculum, office time (time to work independent of team- TSG, curriculum, IEP/ONE Plan meetings), and cluster (professional development meetings/colleagues meeting).

Programming is based on influences from Reggio Emilia, Italy, the interests and curiosities of the children, and the unique culture and resources of our local Vermont community.
Burlington Children’s Space is a private, nonprofit early education and childcare center governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are dedicated to serving all populations, with both children and teachers from a variety of diverse backgrounds, and our tuition is based on a sliding scale. As an agency committed to meeting the needs of children, families and community, BCS has worked hard to support the increase of high quality child care slots in the Burlington area. We strive to educate members of our community about early education issues, the need for high quality child care, and the impact child care has in the community. We provide care from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday, all year round!
