Summary To provide a combination of secretarial, computer data entry, reception and clerical duties at the direction of the Administrative Nurse Manager or Designee.
Responsibilities
Transcription of Physician's Orders and computer skills.
Criteria A: Transcribes Physician's Orders in an accurate and timely manner according to Norwalk Hospital's Policies and Procedures.
Criteria B: Attends computer classes as necessary i.e., Cerner, Synquest and Eclipsys.
Criteria C: Notifies appropriate personnel of STAT orders and accesses lab values when requested.
Criteria D: Calls department for facilitation of transcribed orders when appropriate.
Record Maintenance.
Criteria A: Prepares, ED records in an accurate and timely manner.
Criteria B: Maintain adequate supply of ED paperwork.
Criteria C: Processes Emerge data, charges and discharge records according to ED standards.
Communication.
Criteria A: Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and coworkers within scope of responsibilities. Identifies unit and self when answering phone.
Criteria B: Uses a Windows-based computer system competently.
Criteria C: Assists the RN in care delivery by providing accurate and timely processing of communications. Relays information to appropriate person in a timely manner.
Occupational and Personal Responsibilities.
Criteria A: Demonstrates compliance with identified policies and procedures in carrying out ED Express Care assignments (on call list, maintenance of data, and medical terminology knowledge).
Criteria B: Demonstrates willingness to assist with and improve unit operations.
Criteria C: Maintains neat and orderly appearance and environment.
Criteria D: Completes all competencies and annual requirements as established. Maintains personal educational record.
Equipment and Supplies.
Criteria A: Monitors, orders, and oversees maintenance of equipment and supplies in a proper, orderly and cost‑effective manner (paperwork, food supply list, copier/fax equipment and office supplies).
Criteria B: Contacts appropriate departments as directed by Manager/designee for needed services on ED and Express Care nursing unit.
Policy and Procedure.
Criteria A: Assists in QA studies as assigned by the Nurse Manager/designee.
Criteria B: Maintains and updates telephone listings, on‑call list, MD called list and trauma list.
Criteria C: Participates in ED/Express Care staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows based computer system. Hospital or other health care setting experience.
