Description
Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world’s best pre‑K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost‑free home and a top‑notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.
MHS is currently seeking a part‑time, ancillary
Theater Technician
to join the VPA team. This seasonal, ancillary role coordinates and maintains technical support for performing arts programs including, but not limited to, 7 spaces (2,500‑seat Founders Hall theater, 900‑seat Catherine Hall Theater, 650‑seat Memorial Hall theater, 150‑seat End Stage Theater, 150‑seat Middle Division Small Theatre, and 3 dance studios) through the planning, design, construction, and implementation of:
Sets
Theatrical spaces
Rigging and fly systems
Sound systems (Dante/Network Based Sound Systems)
Special effects including pyrotechnics
Key responsibilities
Manage all aspects of stage preparation and function.
Instruct students in grades 9‑12 in Stage Production and Theater Management (after school classes).
Work with professional traveling shows including reading light plots and stage plans.
Maintain safety in all theatrical spaces with periodic inspections.
Manage all routine maintenance in theater spaces.
Support other school programs through the operation and maintenance of sound systems and scoreboards.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Prior theater stage management experience required.
Previous experience working with children & youth, preferred.
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds a plus.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to inspire, collaborate and negotiate.
Strong communication skills – verbal and written.
Demonstrated organizational skills including the ability to multi‑task in dynamic environments.
Commitment to excellence required.
Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students.
Candidates must be willing to actively engage with students beyond the scope of their responsibilities.
