Bus Assistant
Starting Pay: $21.69/Hour

The Bus Assistant assists the bus driver with the movement, management, and care of students during transportation to and from school.
Responsibilities
Assist students with entering or exiting the bus safely.
Seat students using the appropriate seat belts, car seats or wheelchair restraints.
Serve as a role model for students, demonstrating a positive attitude, good moral character, and integrity.
Monitor passengers at all times to ensure safety regulations and conduct rules are followed.
Enforce student management through communication and discipline per Company policy.
Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to the appropriate authority.
Physically assist passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency.
Ensure children retrieve their belongings when leaving the bus.
Assist the driver in keeping the interior of the vehicle clean and presentable.
Complete all required paperwork and submit it to the appropriate employee/department promptly.
Display the highest ethical and professional behavior when interacting with employees, supervisors, parents, and school personnel.
Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
Report to duty on time and perform all responsibilities safely.
Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service sessions.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age; for New York School Bus Assistants, at least 19 years of age per state law.
Must meet physical and medical requirements.
Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training, and attend safety meetings and in-service sessions in order to remain qualified.
Must have a high degree of attention to detail and dexterity to safely use restraints and secure wheelchairs.
Ability to relate to and work well with children.
Ability to maintain effective student behavior management.
High level of professionalism and diplomatic skills to work with students, employees, parents, and school district personnel.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.
