The Packer Collegiate Institute seeks a Middle and Upper School Science Teacher who brings strong content knowledge, constructivist pedagogy, and a student-centered approach to teaching and advising.

Anticipated start date: August 2026

This full-time position includes teaching science courses in both the Middle and Upper School and advising a small group of Upper School students. The teacher works closely with science department colleagues to design meaningful learning experiences grounded in clearly defined skills and standards. The role supports coherence, alignment, and progression across the science program.

Primary Responsibilities

Teach a range of Middle and Upper School science courses aligned to departmental and school wide skills and standards.

Design inquiry based learning experiences that emphasize scientific thinking, experimentation, and evidence based reasoning.

Use shared skills and standards to plan instruction, assess student learning, and provide clear feedback.

Develop and implement laboratory experiences that build technical skills, data analysis, and scientific communication.

Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners, interests, and readiness levels.

Advise a group of Upper School students and support their academic, social, and emotional growth.

Communicate clearly and consistently with students and families about learning progress and demonstrated skills.

Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design and vertical alignment

Contribute to a culture of reflection, inclusion, and professional growth.

Stay current with developments in science education and pedagogy.

Teaching Approach and Mindset The ideal teacher centers students in the learning process and uses skills and standards to make learning goals clear and transparent. Instruction values curiosity, iteration, collaboration, and real world application. Teaching practice reflects responsiveness to student voice, identity, and diverse learning needs.

Qualifications

Experience teaching science at the middle and/or upper school level.

Experience designing curriculum and assessments grounded in skills and standards.

Strong content knowledge in one or more science disciplines.

Experience with inquiry based and laboratory focused instruction.

Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners through inclusive instructional practices.

Commitment to collaboration and ongoing professional growth.

Comfort with educational technology and learning management systems.

Interest in and readiness for Upper School advising.

A master’s degree preferred.
