Think, communicate, and behave as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related duties. Maintain professionalism and integrity at all times in the classroom, staff/program meetings, trainings, and with any partners of the YMCA Head Start program. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the YMCA and Head Start Code of Conduct. Actively monitor professional development goals and annually required hours. Supervise and implement the program in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and the policies and philosophy of the YMCA. Complete duties as required by the Child and Adult Care Food program. Maintain prompt hours, follow procedures for absences, and ensure teaching team is aware of activities and roles and responsibilities in case of absence. May be assigned additional duties based upon program needs and areas of developing expertise.

Classroom Activities

Responsible for creating an environment and positive experiences that is inclusive for all children served based upon DAP, curriculum, Head Start standards, and state and local regulations.

Plan and provide individualized learning experiences for the children using data collected from initial assessments, observations, and family input.

Collect and analyze ongoing child assessment data to ensure children meet and/or exceed school readiness goals.

Provide and promote positive teacher‑child interactions by offering children appropriate affection, verbal praise, and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for behavior; set firm limits with positive phrasing and actions when necessary.

Maintain a clean and organized learning space.

Meet the needs of children in all developmental levels, including children with special needs and abilities.

Communicate effectively and regularly with the teaching team and ensure specific tasks are completed accurately and timely, including designating roles and responsibilities in the classroom.

Implement CACFP programming by acting as a role model to children to promote family‑style meals and healthy eating practices.

Record Keeping & Reporting

Collect, record, and maintain all necessary information and documentation as prescribed.

Timely completion and input of all child outcome data into MTS on a weekly basis.

On‑going monitoring and record‑keeping of each child’s progress toward achieving School Readiness goals.

Complete documentation as required by the Child and Adult Care Food program.

Monitor attendance daily and communicate any absenteeism concerns with advocate or center manager.

Complete all health, safety, and sanitation processes per standards and regulations.

Submit monthly reports as prescribed by center manager.

Review home activities in‑kind forms for accuracy and submit to center manager.

Inventory supplies and materials needed in the classroom and submit to center manager.

Parent/Family Involvement & Community Relations

Promote parents as their child’s first teacher by sharing child developmental levels, establishing learning goals collaboratively, and providing home activities to extend classroom learning.

Build rapport with families through positive and professional interactions.

Promote volunteerism in the classroom and participation in family engagement activities.

Schedule and attend HV and PTC to gather information about the child’s needs and to share child progress toward school readiness goals.

Collaborate with other content areas and community representatives to refer, gather resources, and work collaboratively.

Supervision

Work with the teaching team to develop and provide consistent routines and transitions throughout each day.

Supervise all indoor and outdoor activities while maintaining ratio requirements at all times.

Ensure each child is within sight and sound and accounted for at all times.

When the center manager is not at the center, may be designated as person in charge to handle all emergencies and have access to all records according to ODJFS.
