Overview A leading global data center operator is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Critical Operations Technician to join its Chicago‑based team. This role is essential to maintaining uptime and operational excellence across mission‑critical infrastructure supporting some of the world’s most innovative companies.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and base building systems within a high‑availability data center environment.
Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs to ensure optimal performance of all critical systems.
Monitor building management systems (BMS) and respond to alarms and anomalies.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support infrastructure upgrades and expansions.
Maintain detailed logs and documentation for compliance and operational transparency.
Support safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
Qualifications
Prior experience in mission‑critical environments such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, and fire suppression systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Familiarity with CMMS platforms and building automation systems.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Willingness to work in a rotating shift schedule, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Skills
Certifications such as EPA Universal, NFPA, or equivalent.
Military or technical trade background.
Passion for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
