Support Services Assistant Located at WVU Medicine, this role supports various service positions across the West Virginia University Hospitals, including Material Handling Attendant, Equipment Handling Attendant, Housekeeping Assistant, Dietetic Assistant, Support Associate, and Linen Services Attendant. The employee will report to the Central Transport Department at the beginning of each shift to receive daily assignments and must be flexible to fulfill assignment duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD), or obtain a temporary MCHD FSWP no later than the first Wednesday of employment and a permanent MCHD FSWP within one month of start date. Maintain a valid NCHD FSWP throughout employment.

Certify in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Perform support duties as outlined in the Support Associate job description.

Provide patient transportation to and from testing areas as needed.

Transport items throughout the facility.

Perform housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and productivity.

Support dietetic functions such as patient tray line, dish room, cafeteria service, and cold food production.

Retrieve, process, and distribute linen, handling soiled and clean linens.

Inventory, stock, issue, and distribute supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for Surgical Services and Materials Management.

Assist with equipment handling duties as described in the Equipment Handling Attendant job description.

Physical Requirements

Lift, move, and carry up to 60 pounds; push/pull carts or beds up to 200 pounds; pull fully loaded meal carts up to 250 pounds; push loaded supply carts weighing over 600 pounds.

Stand for entire shift; walk for long periods.

Maintain visual and oral acuity for safety and patient interaction.

Working Environment

High noise levels and deadline pressures.

Hot and/or wet conditions in work area.

Exposure to cleaning and dishwashing chemicals.

Skills and Abilities

Mathematical skills for counting, inventory, and conversion of quantities.

Excellent communication skills, both phone and personal.

Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
