Position Summary
The Skilled Trades Helper supports the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment across campus. This role performs a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled tasks under the guidance of a Skilled Tradesman and is subject to applicable state and federal regulations and institutional policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in developing maintenance schedules for facilities and equipment
Perform general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs
Help construct wooden structures, replace fixtures, repair broken pipes, and service refrigeration units
Operate and maintain power tools and other equipment safely
Report maintenance needs and safety issues promptly
Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repair history, and materials used
Work independently when necessary
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Working knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and painting
Familiarity with the operation and safety of tools, motorized vehicles, and mechanical equipment
Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on a variety of building systems
Capable of working both as part of a team and independently when needed
General Days / Hours
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Additional hours may be required based on operational needs
Regular and reliable attendance is essential
This role is designated as Essential Personnel in Facilities Management
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
At least one (1) year of experience or training in building maintenance, construction trades, or mechanical equipment repair
A valid driver’s license is preferred
Other job‑related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or parts of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
