Waste Water Operator

Position Summary This operator position oversees wastewater and is responsible for operating and maintaining a complex industrial wastewater pretreatment system, including various treatment processes and auxiliary equipment used for processing and handling industrial wastewater and generated industrial by‑products. Other duties are assigned as needed.
Responsibilities
Build relationships with city, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
Work with engineers, vendors, and contractors on projects.
Operate and monitor all wastewater pretreatment plant equipment, making necessary adjustments based on findings.
Take periodic samples and perform and record the results of various laboratory tests to assess and monitor system condition and determine optimal chemical and biological treatment.
Maintain efficiency of plant and laboratory operations, including maintenance of equipment pumps, filters, machinery, testing, quality control and record‑keeping procedures.
Read and record meter and gauge readings.
Maintain plant records, including operations logs, daily diaries, computer data entry and chemical inventories.
In accordance with the Wastewater Discharge Permit, collect and submit all required effluent samples to a certified laboratory.
Ensure timely reporting to local authorities and facility management when an upset or exceedance occurs.
Perform ground maintenance and housekeeping duties to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient workplace.
Be able to work overtime.
Adhere to occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; practice chemical safety procedures.
Apply general math and basic algebra skills.
Apply sampling methods and physical/chemical tests used in treatment plant control.
Service moving machinery and understand hazards of high‑voltage equipment.
Apply process quality control requirements and remedial measures in dealing with process malfunctions and emergencies.
Operate and maintain pumps, motors and equipment; read meters and gauges; maintain operating records; make mathematical computations; read and comprehend written materials.
Learn technical and specialized processes pertinent to wastewater treatment plant work, including required laboratory analysis.
Use common hand tools; work independently; understand and follow oral and written instructions; work harmoniously with others.
Operate a motor vehicle.
Qualifications
Three to five years working with municipal and/or industrial wastewater – RESUME IS NECESSARY.
High School Diploma or GED.
Class A Wastewater Operator License with the State of Indiana.
Valid Motor Vehicle Operators License.
Ability to visualize a project from start to finish.
Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or new ones may be assigned by management at any time with or without notice.
Complete Certification in Lock Out / Tag Out.
Physical Requirements
Regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Regularly climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to work in wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, outside weather conditions, extremes of cold and heat.
