Janitor

The Buckley School, Los Angeles' oldest K-12 gender-inclusive learning institution, has an opening for a Janitor. This position responsible for keeping the school and classroom buildings in clean and orderly condition. Responsibilities also include assisting with the setup of tables and chairs for school events and moving furniture and other items on and off campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Keep School grounds and buildings clean, free of trash and orderly.

Assist with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, etc. for school events.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum hallways, stairs, classrooms and office space.

Clean and disinfect restrooms.

Using universal precautions and procedures, cleanup bodily fluids as needed.

Empty classroom and office trash and garbage containers.

Clean and disinfect lunch tables, food preparation areas and dishes.

Notify Physical Plant management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.

Clean debris from sidewalks.

Transport trash and waste to compactor area.

Deliver milk throughout campus and restock lounges with supplies.

Perform set up duties which may include making coffee or tea, delivering ice buckets, and delivering tablecloths as well as setting up table, chairs and other furniture and equipment.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPENSATION The rate for this position is $25.00 - $27.00 per hour.

The base rate is separate from fringe benefits, such as retirement contributions, daily lunch, on-site parking, contributions to medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, our generous time off policy, or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Our pay ranges are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at The Buckley School, your actual base rate will be determined by your education, experience, and schedule.
