Position Summary:
The Forklift Operator / Material Handler is responsible for safely operating forklifts to support production by delivering raw materials, transporting finished goods, and maintaining organized work areas. This role includes completing required documentation, ensuring labeling and quality standards are met, and assisting with scrap and recycling preparation. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and housekeeping are essential.
Essential Job Functions
Inspect and check forklift daily for safe and proper operation and complete forklift inspection documentation.
Supply production associates with in-process materials, components, and supplies necessary to maintain workflow.
Transport finished products to designated storage or shipping locations.
Verify that all product being moved has correct labels, tags, and color‑coded identifiers and meets required quality standards.
Complete raw material usage reports and inventory tickets accurately.
Weigh and record scrap material; transport waste to designated areas.
Compact, bail, and prepare scrap materials and cardboard for shipment.
Assist in maintaining the department according to good housekeeping and organizational practices.
Follow all company safety and environmental procedures at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Job Qualifications
Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
Must maintain a high degree of attention to safety to prevent injury to self and others.
Ability to move and lift up to a 50-pound wooden skid.
Must successfully complete and maintain certification through the in‑company forklift driver training program.
Physical Demands Rarely (0%-33%): Carrying up to 30 pounds; pushing, pulling; standing; reclining; squatting; kneeling; twisting; climbing; balancing; crawling; reaching (horizontal, below waist, above shoulder).
Occasionally (34%-66%): Lifting up to 90 pounds; crouching; walking.
Frequently (67%-100%): Sitting.
Working Conditions Rarely (0%-33%): Outdoor exposure; low humidity; wetness/slippery surfaces; vibration; confined spaces; elevated work; chemical irritants; odor; explosives; electrical hazards; toxic conditions.
Occasionally (34%-66%): High temperatures; high humidity; low temperatures; noise.
