Reporting directly to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor IV, this position is responsible for maintaining and repairing the machines and equipment used to process and distribute water to include sample, measure and monitor waste/water effluent quality to ensure monthly monitoring limits are met in accordance with Department of Environmental and Natural Resources and Division of Water Quality. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collecting and analyzing samples at various stages of the Wastewater Treatment Plant process to include: flow measurement; dissolved oxygen, settleable matter, residual chorine, temperature and PH.
- Observing the operation of the Treatment Plant and performing preventative maintenance on pumps, blowers, electric motors, filter, tanks, basins, recirculation and sludge pumps and other equipment to guard against equipment failure.
- Interpreting on-site test results and results of certified laboratory analysis for such test as Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Total Suspended Solids, Fecal Coliform, and Ammonia Nitrogen for evaluation of plant operation efficiency.
- Implementing necessary treatment process controls.
- Recognizing wastewater treatment conditions and making necessary corrections such as: setting, adjusting, and monitoring regulators, timers, and control mechanisms determining correct amounts of chemicals to ensure safe and efficient wastewater treatment.
- Responsible for all major repairs to the Treatment Plant to ensure immediate equipment repair to prevent a potential health or environmental hazard. Such conditions could include: bypassing of treatment process, septic condition arising from aeration blower failure or typical equipment failure.
- Supervising offender labor for the daily maintenance and cleaning of the Treatment Plant and associated equipment to include: cleaning solids from Lift Station bar screens, disposal of waste, maintenance of drying beds, general maintenance of electric motors and other Plant components.
- Achieving efficient operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant within recognized environment as established by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, Division of Water Quality such as meeting required effluent quality. Limitations, monitoring and report of effluent quality, ensuring the proper application of sludge on permitted land in accordance with permit.
- Monitoring and accurately adjusting valves, pumps, blowers, recirculation systems, equalization basin flow, and chemical additive systems to maintain correct operational levels.
- Maintaining daily records and charts indicating plant operational efficiency levels are compiled for reference and are subject to review by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and Engineering Section.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences*** Knowledge of chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformation that they undergo which includes usage of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, and production.* Knowledge and skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of applicable machines, equipment, and tools.* Knowledge of state and local laws, ordinances and regulations related to the area.**Necessary Special Requirement:** Work of some positions in this classification may require employee to possess or obtain C-Well, spray irrigation and subsurface certifications within 24 months and/or obtain & maintain Pesticide Applicator certification within 24 months of hire.**This is a RE-POST of position 60065796.
