Position Summary: This role is responsible for safely driving a commercial truck on designated routes to deliver products to a series of customers. The driver assists in unloading products at each delivery location, obtains delivery confirmation, and completes necessary paperwork. The driver performs routine vehicle inspections and operates the vehicle in compliance with DOT regulations, including pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and completing daily driver logs.
Responsibilities
Safely drive commercial truck(s) with trailer(s) on designated routes to deliver products as per schedule and current DOT rules.
Maintain DOT driver logbook or electronic logging device and other delivery documentation.
Assist in unloading trucks/trailers at each delivery location and verify correct products are delivered, obtaining delivery confirmation and customer signature.
Inform management of any deviations, invoice discrepancies, damaged goods, or customer returns, ensuring paperwork is completed and documents attached.
Report unsafe unloading conditions at delivery locations to dispatcher or supervisor.
Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections on the vehicle before every run to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency components are in working condition.
Review driver itinerary and check route details for assigned deliveries, check customer invoices, and maintain required trailer temperature.
Unhook and secure the trailer, refill fuel, park and secure the tractor and hand truck, complete DOT logs, and reconcile records with the appropriate company representative.
Perform simple vehicle maintenance (cleaning, state inspection, filling tires with air, etc.) and report damage or repair requirements.
Provide quality customer service at every delivery location and report issues or complaints.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (preferred).
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (required).
Six months or at least 50,000 miles of all‑season commercial driving experience (required).
Pass DOT physical examination, DOT pre‑employment drug test, and periodic random alcohol and drug testing.
Work up to 60 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
Good communication skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Good organizational, prioritization and attention to detail skills.
Good customer service skills.
Ability to read maps, route schedules, and operate vehicles in various traffic and weather conditions.
Knowledge of federal regulations and DOT guidelines.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to work safely to prevent injury while driving, loading, and unloading vehicles.
Proficiency with GPS/On‑Board Recorders and ability to communicate with dispatch.
Basic computer skills (preferred).
Ability to travel with overnight stays on occasion.
Physical Requirements Must lift or move up to 100 pounds frequently during loading and unloading; push and pull loaded pallets and carts up to 2,700 pounds. Sit up to eleven hours per day and climb in and out of tractor and trailer often. Overnight travel may be required. Work environment includes exposure to weather conditions and moderate to high noise levels.
