HVACR Specialist I – Facilities Management Job Description Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialists perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. Under direct supervision, responsibilities include preventive maintenance on equipment such as furnaces, radiant heaters, chillers, air handlers, window units, evaporative coolers, and refrigeration units; maintenance of auxiliary equipment; inspection of equipment, meters, gauges, and occupied areas; troubleshooting electrical circuits and repairing or replacing components; diagnosing equipment failure and testing system functions; installing new components to improve energy efficiency; purchasing parts and maintaining inventories; storing, handling, and disposing of coolants and chemicals; and performing related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance on HVACR equipment and auxiliary components.

Inspect equipment and instruments and log operating data.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system failures.

Install or modify components to improve energy efficiency.

Purchase parts, maintain inventory and records as required.

Store, handle, and dispose of chemicals per regulations.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to estimate material and labor, secure technical advice, diagnose failures, design system modifications, and meet lower‑level requirements.

Working knowledge of commercial heating and cooling systems, including but not limited to chilled water systems, boiler systems, high‑tonnage air handlers, walk‑in coolers/freezers, reach‑ins, ice machines, air vacuum, air compressors, and laboratory exhaust systems.

Internal Candidates Only current CSN employees with at least six months of continued service are eligible to apply.

Schedule Four ten‑hour shifts Thursday through Sunday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (subject to change based on college needs). May require travel between campuses.

Salary & Benefits Grade 32, Step 5 – $69,948.00.
