The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is expanding our Transportation Team in Michigan, and we’re looking for a
Senior Transportation Engineer & Office Lead
to take charge of exciting roadway and utility design projects in a fully

This position includes
supervisory responsibilities , overseeing a team of
seven designers
in our Detroit office, and offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
Key Responsibilities What You’ll Do
As the
Senior Transportation Engineer & Office Lead , you’ll combine
technical expertise
with
team leadership
to deliver high‑quality transportation and utility projects:
Lead the preparation of
transportation design plans and 3D models
for local agency and municipal utility projects
Perform and review
design calculations
to ensure accuracy and compliance
Prepare
design packages
for milestone client submittals, including estimates, special provisions, and RID packages
Provide
technical guidance and mentorship
to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team
Support MDOT projects as needed, applying similar expertise and leadership
Oversee and manage a
team of seven designers , ensuring successful project delivery and professional development
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Bachelor’s degree
in civil engineering
12-15 years’ experience working with
MDOT
transportation and
Local Agency
Michigan PE
with the ability to become registered in other states
Knowledge of
OpenRoads ORD
design software is required.
AutoCAD/Civil3D
is a plus
Experience working as a
PM
Desire and ability to
manage
a team
