Position Summary Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is looking for an adjunct Instructor to teach Custodial/Environmental Services courses within the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. This role focuses on delivering high-quality instruction in commercial cleaning best practices, including sanitation, safety protocols, equipment handling, and industry standards. The instructor will play a vital role in preparing individuals for employment in custodial and environmental services roles.

Applicants for this position must successfully pass background checks conducted by both Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections system.

Required Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent and experience in custodial services.

Capability of delivering instruction in a classroom setting.

Ability to demonstrate cleaning equipment, with knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their appropriate application.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

Experience in commercial cleaning and experience in adult education/instruction preferred.

Knowledge of job‑seeking and job‑retention skills also preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Willingness to work in a corrections facility with incarcerated individuals and follow rules and regulations of both the community college and the facility.

Department Community Programs

Work Hours 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with 1-hour lunch break (unpaid), three days per week.

Duty and Responsibility

Successfully prepare, manage, and deliver course content in order to achieve course objectives, accommodate diverse learning styles, and meet student learning outcomes.

Actively engage students and provide prompt feedback in an objective, respectful, and effective manner.

Communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.

Work collaboratively with the College’s support services to identify and address the students’ academic support needs.

Utilize College technology for the delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the College’s learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portals.

Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.

When applicable, ensure laboratories are appropriately stocked with required supplies and equipment is in safe operating order.

Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty and staff.
