The City of Surprise Parks & Recreation Department is excited to welcome a strong, people-centered Aquatics Supervisor to lead and support our aquatics team. We are seeking a leader who prioritizes operational excellence, safety, and clear staff accountability. The ideal candidate is confident in setting expectations, providing direction, and ensuring consistent, high-quality program delivery across all aquatic facilities.
This role calls for a hands-on supervisor who can effectively lead, coach, and develop a diverse team of aquatics professionals while fostering a culture of responsibility, professionalism, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings a positive leadership presence, strong technical expertise, and a commitment to holding both themselves and their staff to high standards through clear communication, training, and performance management.
A passion for aquatics and staff development is essential, along with the ability to strengthen competitive teams and learn-to-swim programs through structured supervision, safe practices, and operational oversight. SUMMARY Incumbents supervise the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of recreation activities; supervise staff; oversee facilities; provide professional-level customer service; manage the budget, and market recreation programs and events. Incumbents also supervise Citywide recreation activities such as special interest classes; aquatics; youth, adult, and adaptive programs; youth and adult sports; sports tournaments; tennis; community special events; volunteer programs; or facilities such as community centers and subordinates. Incumbents make employment recommendations; write performance evaluations; develop operating and capital budgets for approval of manager; and work with outside entities, partners, and sponsors.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management or closely related field, and four years of responsible experience in professional recreation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
