Unit Overview The Department of EM at Cooper University Health care is a dynamic clinical department that provides high quality patient-centric emergency care to our community.
As part of CUES (Center for Emergent and Urgent Services) for Cooper, we have an expansive clinical, educational, and research-based focus.
Our education team trains 40 EM residents, 2 EMS fellows, one education fellow and one ultrasound fellow in addition to teaching a highly rated required 4th year clerkship for every CMSRU student.
The service lines have expanded to include: 3 urgent care sites, pediatric EM, EMS, toxicology, ultrasound, collaboration with addiction medicine/pain management, high quality research/grants, geriatric EM and disaster medicine.
Short Description Provider shall provide Emergency Physician care as needed to staff the Emergency Department at all agreed upon facilities to provide the following services:
Complete all duties of attending physician as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws
Coordinate all specialty consultations and resource utilization
Disposition patients in a timely manner
At time of discharge/transfer will complete Discharge Instructions
Participate in QA and PI as reasonably requested
Provide care for any patient entering the Emergency Department which includes evaluation, treatment, involving sub-specialists as needed and dispositioning the patient
Perform emergent procedures as needed within the scope of physician privileges
Complete Medical Records in a timely fashion
Adhere to Medical Staff Bylaws and Hospital Rules and Regulations and policies
Perform other life/limb saving procedures as may from time to time be necessary
Make best effort to ensure compliance with all Core Measure quality indicators for patients under their care
Perform the duties as mutually agreed
Participate in teaching program
Comply with the requirements of the teaching faculty
Respond to calls for evaluation/orders for ED patients
Complete miscellaneous procedures e.g. (ACLS, initial EKG interpretations, radiologic interpretations, urinary catheter insertion, ABGs, etc.) as requested/necessary
Pronounce patient dead
Order and renew restraints
Obtain consent for autopsy, organ/tissue donation, transfusion, DNR, withdrawal of care, and any other consent forms as needed
Education Requirements This position also requires the completion of an accredited Point of Care EM Ultrasound Fellowship.
Experience Required The applicant must have completed an ACGME accredited EM residency program and be board eligible/board certified in EM.
License/ Certification Requirements The applicant must be ABEM board eligible or ABEM board certified. Additionally, the applicant must pass the Advanced Emergency Medicine Point of Care Ultrasound certification exam within two years of eligibility.
