Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead the maintenance and overall health of our premier golf course. Founded in 1955, Westlake Country Club is a family oriented, 9-hole private club in Jerseyville, Illinois featuring bent-grass greens & blue/fescue fairways & tees. Westlake Country Club is searching for a self-motivated individual to serve as Superintendent of this 70+ acre facility. The Superintendent will be responsible for all aspects of the turf-grass management program to include IPM, fertilization, irrigation, equipment maintenance and tree management while conserving and protecting natural resources. A $5,000 sign on bonus will be awarded, partly paid after 6 months of employment, then again in December 2026. With recent improvements including equipment & shop upgrades, as well as a brand new pump house, we hope you show interest in joining us in Jerseyville.
Requirements
2-4 year degree in turf-grass management (preferred) or 3-5 years as Supt or Asst Supt
Working knowledge of proper maintenance practices relating to golf course greens, tees, fairways, trees, ornamental plants, irrigation systems and mechanical repairs
Ability to schedule and supervise golf course maintenance activities to achieve efficient use of employees, equipment and resources on a daily basis
Self-motivated, independent thinker with a positive team-focused approach
Knowledge and interest in the game of golf
Possession of a valid driver’s license
Possess or ability to possess an Illinois state pesticide applicators license
Attend educational seminars to keep abreast with current best management practices
Develop short and long term improvement plans
Duties
Lead and supervise the daily operations of golf course maintenance teams, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork
Develop and implement comprehensive landscaping plans that enhance course aesthetics and playability, including turf management, tree care, and flower bed maintenance
Oversee irrigation systems to ensure optimal water usage and healthy turf growth, troubleshooting issues promptly
Coordinate construction projects such as bunker renovations, drainage improvements, or new landscaping features with contractors and internal teams
Manage lawn care routines including mowing, fertilization, aeration, pest control, and soil conditioning to maintain pristine playing surfaces
Oversee regular inspections of greens, fairways, roughs, and surrounding landscapes to identify areas needing attention or repair
Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations while maintaining high standards of course presentation
Create and follow a budget pertaining to golf course maintenance and turf management.
Hire, train, and manage grounds staff in conjunction with the board of directors.
