DESCRIPTION The Administrative Vice Chair (AdVC) will serve as a partner to the Chair in the administrative and business operations of the Department of Radiology within the UC San Diego School of Medicine. The AdVC reports directly to the Department Chair and is responsible for overall leadership and management of all administrative activities, including financial administration, academic personnel and salary administration, human resources, sponsored projects, clinical trials, space and facilities management, program planning, and credentialing matters. The AdVC with management to enhance the clinical program, generate revenue, and develop new programs, business plans, and funding models. The role also provides representation for the Chair, liaison with top administration, strategic and operational planning, and management of professional staff and trainees. The AdVC sets service, productivity, and cost standards, ensures quality and efficiency of services, and supports the teaching, research, and service missions of the department.
Key responsibilities include managing revenue‑generating services, coordinating interrelated projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and acquiring resources and infrastructure for the department’s needs.

Clinical facilities: 45,000 sq. ft. across multiple sites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus eight years of related experience, or equivalent experience, education, and training.
Excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple functions or departments through subordinate managers.
Advanced knowledge of financial analysis, human resources, risk management, accounting, and payroll; demonstrated ability to provide detailed financial data analysis, modeling, and review.
Experience managing a large, complex, multi‑mission organization.
Excellent conflict management and persuasive skills for sensitive situations.
Ability to coordinate management efforts with administrators, faculty, the Health System, School of Medicine, and other university elements.
Demonstrated ability to execute complex change initiatives, including communications planning, change management, proposal development, financial modeling, risk and issue mitigation, and detailed implementation planning.
Skilled in verbal and written communication with leadership, faculty, and staff stakeholders; experience with executive‑level presentations.
Knowledge of healthcare industry and reimbursement trends.
Skill in establishing and implementing customer service standards and metrics for departmental and employee goals.
Strong computer application knowledge.
Advanced project management skills, including capital project management.
Advanced administrative management theory knowledge and translation into practice.
Advanced strategy development, systems planning, and change management skills.
PREFERREDIFICATIONS
Master’s degree or advanced training in a relevant field (MBA, MHA, Finance certification, etc.).
Progressive leadership experience in a clinical health sciences setting, ideally within a Radiology department or business office.
Lab and clinic facilities management experience.
Current UC San Diego Health Sciences employee highly preferred.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $149,700 - $297,700 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $71.70 - $142.58
Compensation considers experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced is the budgeted salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Full Pay Range may be broader than the anticipated pay based on internal equity and agreements.
