Job Overview
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA is hiring a Research Scientist specializing in hardware design for cryogenic environments.
The role requires expertise in 3D CAD (SolidWorks), thermal and structural FEA (Ansys/COMSOL), hardware design for cryogenic applications, design for manufacturing, and mechanical engineering principles.
Candidates must have a strong background in cryogenic mechanical engineering theory and implementation, and must be able to drive designs through full product development cycles (requirements, conceptual design, detailed design, manufacturing, integration, and testing). Key Responsibilities
Develop high‑density novel packaging solutions for quantum processor units. Design cryogenic mechanical assemblies for novel signal conditioning sub‑assemblies and signal delivery systems. Perform simulation‑driven designs (shielding, filtering, etc.) to reduce EMI within the qubit environment. Own end‑to‑end product development through requirements, design reports, reviews, assembly/testing documentation, and final delivery. A Day in the Life
Participate in requirements, design, and test reviews; communicate with internal stakeholders. Work cross‑functionally to drive decisions using technical expertise. Refine and define standards and processes for operational excellence. Operate in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment while innovating quickly. Basic Qualifications
PhD or Master’s degree with 4+ years of quantitative field research experience. Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles to business problems and products. Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets. Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting languages. Experience with agile development. Experience building web‑based dashboards using common frameworks. Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be either a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. and must be able to obtain a U.S. export license. EEO Statement
Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
