The Inpatient Rehab Hospital Coder works from home and is responsible for identifying correct coding and sequencing of ICD-10-CM diagnosis and comorbidity codes on the claim form and IRF-PAI for the Hospital's inpatient population.
Responsibilities
Ensures that documentation to substantiate code assignment is present in the medical record
Completes coding and abstracting of inpatient medical records in accordance with ICD-10 CM coding rules and guidelines
Queries physicians when documentation is unclear for coding purposes
Enters codes into the medical record and outcome system to ensure IRF-PAI and claim will submit timely.
Minimum Education and Experience
Two years of medical coding experience- IRF experience preferred
Medical Coding certification- CPC, CCS, CMC or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Detail-oriented, able to meet strict time frames
