Base pay: $42.00‑$48.00/hr.

Location: Jackson, MI (headquarters office). Successful candidates must hold a Michigan Electrician license (Journeyman or Master).

Travel required: 90‑100% of the time with overnight travel covered. A taxable food per‑diem of $65.00 per day is paid for overnight stays.

Purpose of Position This is a multi‑faceted Electrician for solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. The licensed electrician works in the field installing residential and commercial grid‑tied PV systems and batteries. The electrician reports to the Director of Construction and works side‑by‑side with the Master Electrician and other crew members to install all photovoltaic system components, completing fully functional PV systems. The electrician also supports associates in the apprentice program through hands‑on coaching and committee work. The overall goal is to achieve project completion with the highest level of safety, quality, efficiency, education, and conformance to the original plans and NEC specifications.

Major Responsibilities The position is a multi‑skill level role that allows for development. Skill level 1 tasks are defined below; skill level 2 adds more advanced tasks; skill level 3 includes troubleshooting and diagnostics; skill level 4 involves training apprentices and evaluating new hires.

Skill Level 1

Connect solar panels, inverters, and other high‑voltage equipment to a building’s power supply.

Assemble, install, test, and maintain PV‑related electrical wiring, breakers, and equipment.

Test PV electrical systems and continuity of circuits according to job specifications and local codes.

Install underground cabling and conduit runs efficiently.

Inspect, evaluate, and maintain solar systems, mounting hardware, combiner fuse boxes, inverters, switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, revenue meters, and other AC and DC equipment.

Inspect pre‑existing electrical systems in homes and businesses for code violations and safety issues.

Understand and use blueprints and technical diagrams to complete projects.

Maintain, load, and secure trucks, trailers, and equipment.

Report safety incidents to supervisors/crew leaders and complete required accident reports.

Work collaboratively with other installers and electricians to ensure product quality.

Identify potential hazards before working with energized equipment and practice safety standards.

Communicate with customers professionally, addressing questions and concerns.

Represent Harvest Solar through professional dress, conduct, and behavior on site or with customers.

Maintain a high level of quality assurance and control with an emphasis on safety.

Meet with jurisdiction authorities to explain questions in a professional manner.

Maintain license through company‑provided education.

Document work completed and materials used.

Skill Level 2

Perform all Level 1 tasks and pass practical testing on conduit bending, transformer wiring, inverter wiring, and written testing on lineside/load‑side tap and equipment spacing.

Review system and interconnection designs for adherence to NEC and industry best practice.

Work with crew members to complete electrical projects within established codes, policies, and procedures.

Follow Harvest Solar best practices for PV installations and help promote them with associates.

Skill Level 3

Perform all Level 1 and 2 tasks and pass written testing on a complicated lineside/load‑side tap, oneline values, and DC wiring.

Repair or replace PV‑related wiring and equipment.

Inspect, evaluate, and test batteries, data acquisition systems, relays, PLCs, and weather stations.

Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operational issues.

Skill Level 4

Have at least 12 months of employment with successful completion of Level 1–3 tasks and an average Skill Matrix rating of 3.

Support the electrical apprentice program, including training associates, participating on the apprentice committee, and completing apprentice‑related documentation.

Evaluate new hires and apprentices for competency.

Duties and responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.

Educational and Certification Background

Michigan Electrician License (Journeyman or Master) required.

NABCEP certification preferred.

General construction knowledge preferred.

Two to three years of experience with electrical systems; 1–3 years of solar installation experience preferred.

Valid state driver’s license; CDL certification preferred.

MIOSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 30) required.

Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), Uniform Building Code (UBC), and local & utility jurisdiction requirements.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, and navigate construction site terrain.

Full range of mobility in upper and lower body; work in various positions (stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting) for extended periods.

Lift, pull, and push materials and equipment weighing approximately 50 lb on a frequent basis.

Climb to heights and work with proper safety restraints.

Visual inspection skills required.

Ability to tolerate requirements for a minimum of 8 hours daily.

Work Environment

Commercial construction setting – up to 95‑100% outdoor work installing solar systems, 10‑ to 12‑hour days, exposure to construction site hazards, extreme temperatures.

Travel required – 90 to 100% of the time; overnight travel with hotel and transportation costs covered; $65 per day food per diem.

Shop environment – 0 to 10% of the time; exposure to industrial safety hazards, loud and sudden noises, hot/humid and cold conditions.

Benefits

Paid holidays: nine per year (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve).

Paid vacation: accrued weekly at a rate of .924 to achieve 48 hours per year. Unused vacation can be paid out; up to 40 unused hours can be rolled over at year end.

Paid time off (PTO): 72 hours available each year on January 1. PTO does not rollover or get paid out at year end; unused PTO is forfeited. In the first year, available hours are prorated based on hire date.

Health insurance: 80% premiums covered by Harvest Solar. Plans include UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus HSA 2000 and Choice Plus 500 options.

Dental insurance: 80% premiums covered; similar coverage levels as health.

Vision insurance: group rate premiums; associates pay associate cost.

Group life insurance: $50,000.

Group short‑term disability: 60% of base rate with $1,000 weekly maximum, 7‑day waiting period.

Allstate supplemental programs: Accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity available at associate expense.

401(k): auto‑enrolled on the first month after the 90‑day anniversary. Contribution starts at 3% with company match. Match rates increase with higher employee contribution.
