Certified Pipe Welder
Location:
Hopewell, VA
The Welder lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, pipe and building/bridge parts. The role is non‑exempt, reports to the Foreman, and duties are assigned according to specific procedures with frequent work checks.
Essential Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum four (4) years of experience in pipe welding.
Proficiency in 6G, Stick, TIG, stainless, carbon steel, and chrome welding.
Ability to pass X‑ray and UT inspections.
Must be a local candidate.
Must pass a weld test prior to hire.
Must be certified as a welder.
Written pre‑employment qualification test.
Post‑offer drug, alcohol, and physical screening.
Compliance with job‑site safety requirements (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel‑toe boots, etc.).
Availability of safety equipment (hard hat, glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, harness with lanyard, etc.).
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
Functional Requirements
Select equipment, plan layout, assembly, and welding.
Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components.
Bolt, clamp, and tack parts to secure position for welding.
Set up equipment and weld parts.
May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.
Weld pipe (carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome, etc.) using arc, heliarc, gas, TIG processes.
Weld other materials such as pipe, sheet metal, structural steel, brackets.
Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling.
Use cutting torch to cut materials and demolish existing assemblies.
Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisor.
Compensation Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
