Overall Responsibilities

Lays out, fits, and welds aluminum components together with a variety of welding equipment to fabricate or repair products by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

Set up equipment and weld metal parts together using TIG welding processes. Perform related tasks such as cutting, grinding, bolting, or riveting. Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase size of metal parts. Position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding. Bolt, clamp, and tack‑weld parts to secure in position for welding. Lay out, position, align, and fit components together. Select equipment and plan layout, assembly, and welding. Attend group meetings periodically to learn new or modified tasks. Examine weld components to detect defects. Ensure completion of production requirements in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

One‑year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two‑ and three‑syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Prior welding experience required / preferred.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Noise level is usually moderate.
