Some evening, weekend, and holiday work required.## PurposeProvide journey-level skills in Carpentry work in support of campus facility renovation and repair projects. Also support campus special events.## Responsibilities* Perform rough and finish carpentry in the renovation and repair of campus facilities, including selective demolition, framing, alteration, and repair of floors, ceilings, roofs, walls, and related structures. Provide support to facility renovation, repair, and construction projects in compliance with project documents and schedules.* Select, order, and cut materials as appropriate to meet project requirements. Assemble and install suspended ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets, trim, and associated hardware. Safely utilize all standard tools of the trade. Mortise doors; install locksets and exit hardware for mechanical and electronically-controlled doors.* Promote and maintain frequent communications and positive relations with all stakeholders. Promote a culture of teamwork within shop and with other shops. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely completion of projects. Emphasize accountability for meeting schedule commitments. Practice and promote the values and goals of the university and the hiring department.* Provide timely and accurate processing of shop written and electronic documentation, including material requisitions, timesheets, and daily labor reports. Develop estimates and order materials. Assist team members in solving work-related problems at jobsites. Maintain high standards for employee conduct, productivity, and safety.* Support and promote university safety procedures, in coordination with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Follow safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, shop and jobsite cleanliness, and compliance with published policies and procedures for safe operation of shop equipment and vehicles. Ensure appropriate handling of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, mold, and silica.* Support maintenance and operation of shop. Clean and adjust tools. Maintain and properly secure shop, tools, equipment, and vehicles. Assist with annual shop vehicle, equipment and warehouse inventory. Promote and maintain a clean and safe work environment in shop and at job sites.* Read, understand, and work from drawings, specifications, standards, and written or verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Ensure projects are executed in accordance with project requirements, campus standards, and applicable codes.* Provide special event support to campus departments, including construction/assembly of platforms, steps, and stages; delivery and setup of flags and banners; tower lighting support;
including after-hours response to project needs and campus facility emergencies. Support other trades with Carpentry Shop-related assignments and other special requests.* Drive UT vehicle to and from job sites to deliver personnel, equipment, and materials. Drive off-campus to purchase and pick up materials and equipment for projects. Support Zone maintenance Shops* Attend management-directed meetings and training. Accomplish other duties as assigned.## Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey-level carpenter. Individual is self-sufficient, mechanically inclined, excellent with time management, extremely adaptable, with outstanding problem-solving skills, and task dedication.

Texas driving history will be confirmed online during selection process; applicant must provide out-of-state driving history, if previously licensed in another state.

Five years or more of journey-level experience in commercial carpentry with emphasis on interior renovations, including installation of drywall, suspended ceilings, doors and hardware, windows, trim, and casework. Experience fabricating, repairing, or retrofitting cabinets, interior and exterior doors and trim, shelving, counter tops, lecterns, and other millwork furnishings. Demonstrated ability to produce quality work from project drawings, specifications, construction standards, and written/verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with building clients, co-workers, and supervisors in a team environment. Experience working in a large university, commercial, or industrial physical plant. ## Driving RequiredThis job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
