Job Summary This position supports the County’s senior nutrition program by independently managing the Washington Island meal site. Responsibilities include planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals; maintaining compliance with food safety standards; and coordinating services for both congregate and home-delivered meal participants. The role ensures consistent, client-centered service delivery through routine operations and volunteer supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Procures food supplies based on dietician-approved menus and purchasing protocols, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with dietary guidelines.
Prepares, cooks, and serves meals for both on-site and home-delivered programs in accordance with ServSafe and nutrition program standards. Monitors food temperatures ensuring safety.
Packages meals for delivery, ensuring portion control, labeling, and safe transport readiness.
Maintains sanitation of kitchen facilities, dining area, equipment, and utensils following state and local food safety regulations.
Collects and deposits donations daily, and submits accurate monthly financial and participant data reports to the ADRC.
Verifies participant assessments are complete prior to congregate meal participation and ensures accurate records of attendance and reservations.
Coordinates and oversees volunteers, including task delegation, scheduling, and providing guidance to ensure service quality.
Communicates supply needs and operational concerns promptly to the Assistant ADRC Director.
Promotes a welcoming environment by interacting respectfully with participants and volunteers.
Ensures compliance with County and State policies and emergency protocols as required.

Food Safety Compliance: Applies sanitation and safe food handling procedures consistently in accordance with ServSafe standards.
Meal Planning & Preparation: Translates approved menus into nutritious meals considering program guidelines.
Operational Accuracy: Maintains clear, timely, and accurate records for meals served, food temperature logs, refrigerator and freezer logs, donations received, and site activity.
Volunteer Coordination: Directs volunteers effectively, offering support and fostering cooperation.
Customer Service: Maintains a professional, courteous demeanor with participants and the public.
Communication: Delivers clear and accurate verbal and written information to meal participants, volunteers, and supervisors.
Adaptability: Adjusts to evolving service demands and food service challenges independently.
Required Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Associate degree in Food Service or related field preferred.
At least two (2) years of experience in food service or a related environment.
Valid driver’s license.
Must obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred Education & Experience
Associate degree in Food Service or related field.
Previous experience serving older adults or persons with disabilities.
Familiarity with Wisconsin senior nutrition program standards.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements Work is primarily performed in a public kitchen environment involving standing for extended periods, repetitive motion, and the use of standard kitchen equipment. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, transport food items, and maintain workspace sanitation. Exposure to hot surfaces, sharp utensils, and cleaning chemicals is common. Travel on Washington Island is required for supply runs or meal delivery.
