What's the role? Reporting to the Surface Operations Supervisor, the Surface Operations Leading Hand is responsible for the supervision, leadership and direction of the Surface Operations team.
Duties include:
Coordinate the daily management, control and supervision of the work and work areas of the Surface Operations team in accordance with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations
Ensure all safety related activities are completed in accordance with Company policy such as Hazard ID's, pre‑start checks, pre‑start meetings, and incident reporting as required
Organize and manage the crew daily including managing breakdowns while maintaining production and delegating unplanned work as it arises
Supervise the work group to ensure work is conducted in a safe manner and any issues or hazards are corrected and/or promptly reported to the Surface Operations Supervisor
Assist crew by investigating problems, recommending solutions, providing assistance in the selection of equipment and providing technical direction and advice
Undertake a full inspection of all working areas throughout the shift as required to ensure safe operations
Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives; implement related changes
Actively promote, monitor and enforce compliance by personnel with safe work practices
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas
Ensure effective handover to cross shift or delegate as required
Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported, investigated and reviewed according to policy and procedure
What are we looking for? The specifics:
Minimum 5 years' surface equipment/operations experience preferably in the mining industry
Experience operating equipment in extreme weather conditions such as temperatures to –40 degrees F, snow, ice, wind etc. REQUIRED
Experience in a supervisory capacity
Proficient in prioritising work
Computer literacy – Microsoft Office Suite
Good communication skills
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
Be able to pass a background check and post‑offer physical
Current Driver's License
The Details: You will be working a 3‑week on, 3‑week off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Schedule will be finalised at interview time. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, internet & cable tv programs. Cell service is available when using Wi‑Fi. The company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
