Paralegal/Legal Assistant 2 – Collections Enforcement The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is seeking an organized and detail‑oriented individual for the Paralegal/Legal Assistant 2 position in the Collections Enforcement section. This role supports attorneys in collecting outstanding debt owed to state agencies, boards, commissions, public universities, hospitals, and local government entities. The position will work a hybrid schedule and may be located in any state office across Ohio.

Responsibilities

Research federal and state statutes, judicial decisions, and other legal sources to prepare responses to inquiries, complaints, claims, and procedural issues.

Perform Internet and computer‑assisted searches for information and documents.

Assist in the preparation and presentation of cases in litigation, including document review, verification, and organization.

Help prepare and respond to discovery requests and public records requests.

Contact opposing counsel or court/board personnel as needed to assist in case preparation.

Log, index, and manage incoming and outgoing electronic and paper document productions using document management software.

Use case‑management software to prepare legal correspondence.

Draft legal briefs, memoranda, contracts, pleadings, motions, affidavits, legislation, rules, and regulations.

Prepare case summaries, legal documents, and reports for review, approval, and signature by section attorneys.

Maintain case calendars and files, and electronically or manually file legal documents with courts on behalf of attorneys.

Respond to general inquiries and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s program in paralegal studies or a related field plus successful completion of a certified paralegal or legal assistant program.

48 months of experience in legal research and writing, or 24 months of education from an accredited law school, or equivalent minimum class qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with discovery and the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure.

Experience with collections, creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, foreclosures, lien payoff requests, mistaken identity issues, Findings for Recovery, and Medicaid Estate Recovery.
