Qualifications Education and Experience:

Graduation from a standard high school and two (2) years of experience in audio, video, and/or digital technology.

Substitution of Education for Experience:

Course work credit from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience on a yearly basis up to a maximum of two years (e.g., 45 quarter hours may substitute for one year of experience); 15 semester hours (or 22.5 quarter hours) must be concentrated in Computer Science or Technology.

Citizen of the United States or legally able to work in the U.S.; good moral character as determined by investigation.

Complete a criminal history disclosure form in an approved manner.

Agree to release all records involving criminal history to the appointing authority.

Supply a fingerprint sample per Tennessee Bureau of Investigation requirements.

No felony convictions; not discharged under dishonorable, bad conduct, or other non‑honorable conditions from any U.S. armed forces branch.

Ability to obtain and retain required security clearances.

Pass a psychological evaluation conducted by a licensed mental health professional in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and relevant to essential functions.

Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Complete prescribed courses of instruction or equivalent upon appointment.

Lift light loads of approximately 50 pounds or less.

Pass a vision and hearing examination performed by a licensed physician in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and relevant to essential functions.

Education and Experience, 100%, for Preferred Service positions.

Overview Summary:

Under general supervision, receives, analyzes, tracks, or redacts video, audio, and digital evidence and responds to requests for department records related to administrative, operational, civil, and criminal matters within deadlines established by state law.

Distinguishing Features:

Responsible for archiving and distributing audio, video, and digital media evidence for use in trial and investigations; retrieving surveillance video; entering media into a digital evidence database; scanning legacy photographic formats. The Digital Forensic Technician collects, archives, and testifies about digital media evidence and converts proprietary video formats to universally playable ones for investigations, trials, and public records requests. Also processes requests for law‑enforcement entities, copies digital evidence to portable devices, and maintains proper evidentiary chain of custody in accordance with Tennessee Public Records Law.

Responsibilities

Receive, log, and track audio, video, and digital evidence for forensic analysis or redaction.

Review evidence for confidential information required to be redacted under Tennessee Code Annotated 10‑7‑504 and perform redactions as necessary.

Coordinate delivery of redacted files to the appropriate requestor for release.

Assist technical forensic examiners in forensic analysis of audio, video, and digital evidence.

Assist with maintenance and upgrade of audio, video, and digital equipment and software.

Maintain logs of hours spent on redaction, as well as evidence tracking logs and case file/logs associated with evidence.

May testify to collected evidence in trials, depositions, and hearings.
