Job Title Construction Materials Inspector (Concrete, Soils & Roadway Testing) (2503567)

Position Information We are seeking a Construction Materials Testing Technician to support roadway and bridge projects. This position involves field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials to verify compliance with project specifications and applicable standards. The role requires accurate sampling, testing, documentation, and effective coordination with project teams while maintaining safety and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform material tests in laboratories, plants, and at points of supply.

Conduct nuclear density tests on subgrade, base, and asphaltic concrete pavement.

Coordinate test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, and material producers and suppliers.

Maintain equipment mileage and service records and schedule equipment repairs.

Keep a diary of inspection or test details.

Maintain and calibrate equipment.

Maintain field record books for each construction project within the assigned area office.

Report test results to field construction personnel and help determine causes of material problems.

Drive or travel to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses, and project sites to monitor program status.

Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or equivalent in general high school studies.

No experience required (experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent).

Valid driver’s license; requires driving a state vehicle.

Attention to detail, ability to review information for errors and consistency.

Basic math skills using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.

Computer competency with applicable programs, applications, and systems.

Ability to maintain a safe and effective working relationship with others.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold (below 32°F or above 100°F for more than one hour).

Exposure to noise, vibration, and hazards such as moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places, heat, or chemicals.

Sedentary work; lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files or small tools.

Job identified as physically demanding and will require a pre‑employment physical.

Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; subject to random drug testing.

Salary

Minimum Salary: $48,240.00

Maximum Salary: $65,000.00
