The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs.GCU maintains a partnership with Arcadia Christian Academy located at 6225 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012. Arcadia Christian Academy is committed to providing differentiated learning opportunities that support academic success for all students. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Arcadia Christian Academy; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring). If eligible, CSLP student workers can work during summer (i.e., May – August).*CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community.**As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents).*Note: All FWS and FWS-CSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at

to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.**Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:**Preferred Shift - 8:30-12:30pm T/W/Th* Adapt reading lessons to align with each student’s grade level and individual learning style, reinforcing literacy skills appropriate to their developmental stage.* Track student development through informal assessments, reading logs, and observation, adjusting instruction to address specific challenges or areas for growth.* Assist students with reading-related homework, projects, and test preparation, helping them build confidence and improve their reading accuracy and understanding.* Create an encouraging and engaging atmosphere that promotes a love for reading and helps students develop strong literacy habits and a positive attitude toward learning.* Other duties as required.**Equipment Used and Responsibility:*** MS Office Suite**Qualifications:*** Be a subject matter expert (i.e., earning at least a 3.0 in target subject)* Ability to build rapport with students, communicate effectively, and adapt explanations to different learning styles.* Maintain a supportive attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions and build their confidence.* Must have reliable transportation.* *Previous Mentoring a plus.** *Ability to speak a second language a plus.***Experience/Education:**Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy.
