Job Description The Litter Officer I is responsible for the effective operations of conducting animal, litter, rabies and vector control activities.

Essential Functions

Cleans, feeds and cares for the animals housed in the facility.

Checks and responds to the call list issued by dispatch.

Responds to and handles a variety of call situations for service from County citizens.

Investigates complaints and issues tickets/citations to offenders.

Assists in euthanasia duties.

Checks on traps that have been set in response to complaint calls of strays.

Assists in animal cruelty investigations.

Notifies DHEC of animal bites and quarantines those animals per DHEC regulations.

Responds to and investigates litter complaints.

On-Call on a rotational basis on weekends and after-hours, which includes cleaning and feeding animals at the facility.

Keeps accurate documentation of all call situations.

Obtains and executes warrants from Magistrate Court.

Performs Mosquito vector control.

Assists the Shelter facilities with vaccinations of animals.

Transports animals to Rescue Facilities and the vet office.

Transports inmates to work area andsupervises the inmate litter removal program.

Operates a variety of equipment.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, inmates, County management staff and employees, County Council, vendors, S.C. DHEC, Magistrate’s Office, law enforcement/emergency response, medical facilities, hospitals, attorneys and the general public.

Non-Essential Functions

Attends trainings to stay current on regulations.

Instructs the public on the importance of rabies vaccination.

Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

Requires a high school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

li>Must obtain state certification as a Limited Duty Officer within one year of hire. Minimum pesticide training is required with certification as a Pesticide
