Position Summary As an Associate Professor of the CDL program at Kilgore College, I will be responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction to students seeking Commercial Driver's Licenses. This position plays a crucial role in preparing students for successful careers in the transportation and logistics industry.

Position Responsibilities

Conduct classroom lectures and practical demonstrations on CDL regulations, safety protocols, and driving techniques as defined by the FMCSA.

Develop and implement lesson plans that adhere to state CDL requirements and industry standards.

Provide hands‑on training and supervision during vehicle operation to ensure students learn proper driving skills.

Assess student progress through tests, evaluations, and observations, providing constructive feedback for improvement.

Maintain accurate records for student attendance, performance, and completion of required training hours.

Collaborate with other instructors and administrative staff to enhance curriculum and program effectiveness.

Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in CDL training to incorporate into teaching practices.

Must be willing to obtain all endorsements available on a commercial license.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements

CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.

Minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in commercial transportation.

Proven experience in teaching, training, or mentoring individuals in a classroom or instructional setting.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of students; bilingual a plus.

Strong understanding of CDL regulations, safety practices, and industry standards as defined by CFR 49 and the FMCSA.

Certification as a CDL Instructor a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.

No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Safety Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependents.

Compensation for this 9‑month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $42,052 for an associate’s degree to $51,894 for a doctorate. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.
