Position Overview Assistant Professor, Physics Education Research - Orlando, Florida

The Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a full‑time, nine‑month faculty position in Physics Education Research at the rank of assistant professor, anticipated to begin August 2026.

UCF is a leader in innovative teaching and research, with a vibrant Discipline‑Based Education Researcher community that spans physics, chemistry, and related STEM fields.

Responsibilities

Establish a vigorous, externally funded, and creative research program advancing physics pedagogy.

Demonstrate excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring.

Design and teach courses in introductory and upper‑level physics labs, analytics, quantum mechanics, astronomy education research, and emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning.

Engage in service assignments in accordance with the department’s equitable workload policy.

Collaborate with related research programs across the university, including Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, and the Learning Sciences.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in physics or a closely related discipline and of independent research.

Experience in physics education research and/or discipline‑based education research.

Record of externally funded research or clear potential for future external funding.

Experience teaching physics and/or astronomy at the university level.

Experience or interest in integrating technology into teaching and research.

Preferred: demonstrated success in physics or astronomy education research.

Preferred Areas of Interest

Introductory or upper‑level physics labs.

Generative AI and machine learning in STEM education.

Qualitative or mixed‑methods research data analysis.

Meta‑cognition, emotion, and self‑regulated learning.

Technology‑enhanced learning.

Quantum mechanics and quantum informatics education research.

Astronomy education research.
