What You Will Do The Quantum and Condensed Matter Physics Group (T-4) in the Theoretical Division seeks qualified post‑bachelor students to join our research teams. Candidates will work on a research project under a staff scientist mentor within one of the following areas: quantum matter, strongly correlated systems, quantum information science, quantum computing, quantum photonics, materials physics, nonequilibrium dynamics, statistical physics, applied energy, and atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics (including opacity). The position is typically scheduled to begin in the summer but can start at any time during the year.

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or soon to be awarded) from an accredited undergraduate program in physics, chemistry, quantum science, materials science, or a closely related field.

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree completed within the last three years in an appropriate field.

Graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Desired Qualifications

Experience conducting scientific research.

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in a professional scientific context.

Work Environment Location: Onsite, Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating the employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. This requirement applies only to U.S. citizens. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance Selected applicants will undergo a background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements * for access to classified material. A Q clearance is required, which generally requires U.S. citizenship. Depending on the position, additional authorization may be required. Receipt of clearance and access authorization is a decision of the Federal Government, not of Triad.

*Eligibility: Candidates must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

No Clearance This position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New‑Employment Drug Test Applicants must complete a new‑employment drug test. Random drug testing applies. Use of marijuana remains illegal under federal law; a positive test will result in termination of employment.
