Join the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) as a professional plumber at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Phoenix. In this vital role, you’ll lead and supervise inmate work crews, maintain plumbing tools and equipment, and perform preventive maintenance on all facility plumbing systems. Responsibilities include cleaning sewer lines, repairing fixtures, and completing a variety of general maintenance tasks.

Job Duties

Cleans small and large sewer drains and repairs toilets, sinks, faucets, water heaters, and boilers

Installs plumbing fixtures, plumbing drains, and water lines

Conducts general maintenance as instructed by supervisors

Drives on State business

Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge of

General building and preventative maintenance

Water heaters, water softeners, water boilers, drainage, waste systems, backflows, and plumbing tools / equipment

National and local building codes and safety practices

Commercial gas lines

Basic blueprints

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, to create reports, charts, and research

Skill in

Written and verbal communication

Scheduling of maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance programs for the facility

Time management and organizational techniques / methods

Establishing and maintaining interpersonal and employee relationships within all organizational levels

Ability to

Lift / Carry 50lbs

Push / Pull 50lbs

Walk / Run 0.25 miles

Read and understand blueprints, schematics, and sketches

Remodel, install, and construct utility services

Work in a prison environment

Selective Preference(s) One (1) year of journeyman-level plumbing experience

Pre-Employment Requirements Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical / physical examination.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) ).

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
