Minimum: $64,468.93 Mid: $80,586.17 Maximum: $96,703.40 Summary
Under the general supervision of the Coding Manager or designee, the Medical Coding Supervisor is responsible for performing and supervising inpatient and outpatient medical coding tasks and staff throughout YRMC. Manages and assigns workloads for high‑volume inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary services, including medical, behavioral health, intensive care, surgical, and other specialty services. Supervises day‑to‑day activities of the medical coding staff. Responsibilities
Monitors coders’ accuracy through audits. Monitors coders’ productivity. Manages attendance needs (PTO, holiday, call offs, schedule changes, sick time). Runs team meetings to facilitate departmental changes, address questions, identify needs, and communicate with coding manager or designee. Participates in or coordinates education/training for coders as needed. Counseling, coaching, and corrective action activities in collaboration with HIM coding manager. Resolves problems and answers questions from staff promptly. Monitors and maintains coding supervisor work queue as coders elevate cases for additional assistance. Preserves confidential, protected health and personally identifiable information and files. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Associate's degree Additional Information
Minimum Education Required: Associate’s degree in medical billing and coding or equivalent. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS-P. Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and current healthcare and medical terminology (ICD‑10, CPT). High degree of organization and strong attention to detail. Ability to communicate, solve problems, and assign work effectively. Experience with multiple specialty coding (cardiology, GI, oncology, orthopedics). Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Office, Outlook, Excel, OneNote, Teams). Proficient in computer skills. Must maintain CPC certification. Preferred Education: Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations related to health‑care finance. Ability to plan, prioritize, and schedule multiple tasks. Experience with Epic (Resolute) Health Information System. Minimum Experience Required: Five (5) years of medical coding experience, including two (2) years of coding education responsibilities.
