Description Gonzalez Companies is a partner managed firm that provides comprehensive Planning, Design, and Construction Management Services to large and small Water, Sewer and Utility Districts; Departments of Transportation; and municipalities. We are currently seeking a Director of Water Resources to help serve our connection of clients and community. This role is ideal for a senior-level water/wastewater engineer who brings deep technical design expertise and is ready to step into a leadership position while remaining actively involved in project execution.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include

Lead the planning and design of municipal water and wastewater projects, including water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations, storage facilities, and treatment infrastructure.

Serve as the primary technical lead, providing engineering judgment, design oversight, and quality control throughout project delivery.

Prepare, review, and approve engineering calculations, plans, specifications, technical memoranda, and reports.

Mentor and support engineers and designers by providing technical guidance, design review, and best‑practice direction.

Coordinate with clients, project managers, and regulatory agencies to support permitting, design approvals, and successful project execution.

Review and seal engineering documents in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred).

Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Kentucky PE or ability to obtain through reciprocity.

10+ years of progressive experience in water and wastewater engineering with an emphasis on design.

Demonstrated experience serving as a senior designer or technical lead on municipal water and wastewater projects.

Strong working knowledge of industry design standards, regulatory requirements, and permitting processes.

Ability to balance hands‑on technical work with team mentorship and technical leadership responsibilities.
