Job Summary This position is responsible for going out to customer job sites to troubleshoot, diagnosing, and repair the commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, and/or HVAC equipment. Communication to the customer regarding services performed is essential.
Essential Functions
Arrive to work site on time
Read and interpret work orders and repair tickets, make accurate and legible notes as to work performed
Properly troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, and/or HVAC equipment
Perform preventative maintenance contracts
Fill out work orders completely
Define service problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions about work needed to be performed for estimates or proposals
Communicate with customers regarding repairs, with dispatch regarding status of job, with parts dept to order correct parts, with General Manager or Service Manager on difficult calls, and with manufacturers as needed for help diagnosing problem with equipment
Collect on tickets as needed
Research service history for customers’ equipment
Keep certain warranty parts for return to the respective factories
Maintain own hand tools and tools provided by the company.
Maintain company vehicle, including keeping it clean, keeping inventory maintained and orderly, keeping vehicle fueled and ensure service gets scheduled for regular oil changes and other services
Must be available for overtime calls and weekend schedule. Technicians are on a rotating weekend and night duty schedule. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for service
Additional Duties
Participate in Service Department training and meetings as appropriate
Help customers with part requests and technical questions
Ability to use a personal computer and operate VMS software to look up part info
Travel to branch locations as needed to help out
Repair certain in-shop equipment
Read and follow company procedure manual and safety rules
Take part in continuing education, as some factories require specific training on their products. Industry certification is available and strongly encouraged
Cross training of other positions as needed for coverage
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Refrigeration technicians must be EPA certified
Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, and/or refrigeration and HVAC equipment and service terminology
Must be highly safety conscious. Abide by lockout/tagout training
Strong troubleshooting skills, problem solving and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently or as a team player
The ability to work with customers, co-workers, and factory personnel in a courteous and tactful manner to resolve problems
The ability to concentrate, handle pressure, meet deadlines and pay attention to detail
Good organizational skills. Motivated, outgoing, self-starter. Able to follow through on duties and assignments with minimal supervision.
Excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
Maintain professional appearance/demeanor
Maintain positive attitude under stress
Must be at least 18 years of age
Completion of a satisfactory background check and drug screen is required
Valid Driver's license and driving record that aligns with our safety standards
Typical Physical Demands This job requires prolonged sitting, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching overhead. This position requires lifting to 75 pounds, requires manual dexterity sufficient to utilize many different hand tools, and requires normal range of hearing and vision. Often climbing ladders is a necessity and going up on rooftops. Must be able to work beneath equipment and in close quarters. Must be able to drive a full-size van.
Working Environment Works in the field in restaurants, schools, or hospitals, or in the shop. Must work inside and outside during extreme heat and cold. Scheduled periodically to work overtime or weekend shifts.
