Controls Technician – Data Center Global Controls Job ID: 3150160 | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

The Data Center Global Controls team is seeking a Controls Technician to support the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) across Amazon data centers. The role requires expertise in industrial controls, field sensors, and mission‑critical electrical and mechanical systems, with a focus on delivering high reliability and continuous customer experience improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Deploy, service and upgrade BMS and EPMS systems in multiple data centers.

Mentor Facilities team members on system operation and control.

Audit, maintain, and manage asset management systems for BMS and EPMS installations.

Manage small to medium size projects and programs.

Execute point‑to‑point checkouts between field devices and controllers.

Perform first‑line diagnostics, troubleshooting and maintenance of programming code and hardware.

Provision servers, controllers, industrial PCs, and network configurations; test communications between third‑party devices and controllers.

Install, replace, configure and calibrate sensors.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, control panel drawings, and basic close‑loop control concepts.

Supervise low‑voltage electrical contractors in wiring and installation of field devices.

Support commissioning and system‑level testing.

Create red‑lined drawings and system documentation.

Generate work requests and procedures via change management.

Participate in factory‑witnessed tests at vendors or panel builder facilities.

Recommend design improvements based on user consultation.

Conduct root‑cause analysis during testing and commissioning.

Ensure site personnel use proper safety methodology.

Work on‑call and on a rotating schedule; respond to after‑hours emergencies.

Monitor ticketing systems, prioritize tasks, and maintain service agreements.

Physical Requirements

Walk job sites in uneven terrain, at heights, and from ladders.

Use hands, fingers, and arms to lift, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Lift up to 49 lbs; participate in group lifts up to 50 lbs or more.

A Day in the Life A typical day begins with morning construction/commissioning meetings, followed by prioritization of project tasks and service tickets. Field work involves configuring controllers, testing sensors, troubleshooting, conducting safety site walks, and supporting general startup processes. The technician logs daily efforts in AWS tools throughout the day.

About the Team AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring continuous access to cloud services. The team collaborates with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to maintain safety, security and operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications

1+ year of professional experience related to computer systems and technology components.

Technical diploma or associate degree with experience in industrial instrumentation/controls, electrical or mechanical operations.

Minimum one year of experience with mission‑critical low and medium voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

One year experience working in a Data Center or mission‑critical environment.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.

ISA Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher.

Fundamental knowledge of network design, low‑voltage cabling, and industrial control systems.

Specialized knowledge of sensor scaling, analog/discrete and networked IO field signals.

Base salary range: 29.00 – 51.00 USD hourly (USA, MS, Canton). Benefits include health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, parental leave, RSUs and more.
