Job Overview
The Kings County Human Services Agency is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Social Worker I/II/III – Child Protective Services (CPS). A total of three salary levels are available: Social Worker I-CPS $55,182.40 – $67,329.60 Annually, Social Worker II-CPS $60,964.80 – $74,401.60 Annually, and Social Worker III-CPS $67,329.60 – $82,201.60 Annually. Manage a caseload of clients and conduct assessments and case studies to evaluate social service needs Assess reports of suspected child abuse and conduct investigations related to allegations of child abuse, including interviews and home visits Screen and interview clients and families in homes, office, or over the phone Conduct home visits in connection with casework assignments Determine eligibility for services and authorize and coordinate services as necessary to complete individual service plans Respond to after-hours emergency calls related to child welfare, abuse, neglect, or other urgent casework associated with safety and well-being of minor clientele Prepare court reports and associated legal documents and testify in court as required Maintain accurate and detailed records, files, and databases related to case actions and client interactions, input and update information into electronic case management systems and maintain confidential client documentation Attend and participate in meetings, case conferences, joint team meetings, in-service trainings, and other staff development activities Assist law enforcement during investigations and establish and maintain professional working relationships with community service providers Provide training to subordinate and less experienced staff and volunteers as assigned Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field Experience Level I: None Required Experience Level II: One (1) year of responsible social services casework experience in child welfare programs at a level equivalent to the classification of Social Worker I-CPS at Kings County Experience Level III: One (1) year of increasingly responsible social services casework experience at a level equivalent to the classification of Social Worker II-CPS at Kings County Licenses: Valid California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at time of appointment Special Requirements: Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check; work 24-hour stand-by/on-call assignments and after-hours rotational assignments; travel within and outside the County; required bilingual fluency in a foreign language may apply Recruitment Process
