Design Engineer (Finance)

Summary: Designs, develops, maintains, and validates connector products for industrial, military, and space markets. Works cross‑functionally to implement product specifications and improvements. Performs routine technical tasks under close supervision while building foundational engineering experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Consult with internal and external stakeholders to develop design improvement concepts.

Create and evaluate design ideas, considering form, function, cost, and manufacturability.

Design components to meet industry, customer, and cost requirements.

Define engineering materials, production costs, and technical specifications.

Participate in cross‑functional product development efforts.

Support project tracking and provide technical assistance across departments.

Perform routine technical work with close supervision.

Use SolidWorks 2D/3D CAD software and MS Office.

Interpret engineering drawings and relevant specifications.

Uphold Positronic’s standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence.

Identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator.

Collaborate with the EHS department to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA, NFPA, DNR, EPA, and Amphenol sustainability practices.

Work with the Quality department to ensure compliance with AS9100 certification standards.

Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 1 year of experience in a related technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, and reach overhead.

Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Requires use of technical equipment, measuring devices, and computer systems.

Requires finger dexterity, near vision, and ability to interpret visual data.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a production and office environment with exposure to machinery, moderate noise, and standard shop materials.

Travel is required on occasion.

Competencies

Knowledge: Working knowledge of mechanical/electrical engineering principles and connector design.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and industry/military specifications.

Understanding of production processes, cost estimation, and material selection.

Familiarity with CAD tools and Microsoft Office products.

Growing knowledge of quality systems and root cause analysis methods.

Skills: Intermediate CAD modeling and engineering documentation.

Clear communication with cross‑functional teams and customers.

Ability to evaluate design‑function relationships and manufacturability.

Skill in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

Time management and task coordination.

Abilities: Ability to analyze and interpret technical documents and specifications.

Ability to identify and communicate basic design issues or concerns.

Ability to manage multiple tasks under supervision.

Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve routine design problems.
