This is the first of four levels in the Utilities Series. Under direct supervision, incumbents perform daily operation and maintenance duties of various water production, water treatment, water production, waste collection systems, wastewater treatment plants, and lift stations. (The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Other duties may be assigned.)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D) and one year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement

Also, the ability to obtain the following certifications within two years of hiring based on job assignment:

Wastewater Treatment Certification Level 1

Wastewater Collection Certification Level I

Water Treatment Certification Level I

Water Distribution Certification Level I

Water Production Certification Level I

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; moving traffic; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

UNIFORM An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
