Construction Superintendent II
Location: Carlsbad, NM
Schedule: TBD – Possible rotations include 5/2, 6/1, or 7/7 (schedule may vary based on project needs).
Target Pay Rate: $80/hr
Per Diem: $125/day for non-local candidates (days worked only)
Vehicle: Agency-provided truck, or $120/day truck allowance for use of personal vehicle (days worked)
Position Overview The Construction Superintendent II is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling day-to-day field construction activities for assigned crafts and subcontractors. This role typically functions as a Field Superintendent or Area Superintendent, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and execution discipline.
This position will support high‑voltage transmission line construction, requiring utility-specific construction knowledge, contractor oversight, and safety leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and control daily field construction activities for assigned crews and subcontractors.
Execute construction tasks in accordance with
project scope, plans, and specifications .
Deliver projects within
contracted schedule and budget .
Work with multi‑discipline engineering teams to monitor and control
scope, schedule, and cost .
Manage field crews and oversee operation and maintenance of earthwork equipment.
Oversee contractor fabrication, construction, and hookup activities during the
Execution Phase .
Serve as the interface between the work face and the
Construction Site Manager / Construction Site Lead .
Respond to field and client information requests.
Serve as a member of the
Project Team (PT)
when assigned.
Champion and enforce
Worker Safety Programs
and safe work practices.
Transmission Line / Utility‑Specific Scope
Oversee daily contractor construction activities for
115kV transmission lines .
Experience with
direct embed and drilled pier foundations .
Knowledge of conductor pulling for
single‑phase and bundled conductors , including pulls across
county and state roadways .
Perform
Quality Assurance (QA)
checks on construction installations.
Walk down and/or ride down transmission lines to develop
punch list items .
Verify
proper structure grounding .
Coordinate and request
Hot Line Holds
with external utility providers (e.g., Xcel) and internal electrical teams.
Assist contractors with planning and execution activities.
Actively intervene and
stop work
when unsafe conditions are identified.
Skills and Qualifications Required
Proven experience in field construction planning, execution, and completions.
Prior
Construction Superintendent
experience on major capital projects.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Familiarity with
Construction Materials Testing
procedures and
ASTM standards .
Strong leadership, communication, and contractor coordination skills.
Willingness to travel to project sites (domestic and/or overseas as required).
Preferred
Prior
utility or transmission line construction experience .
Strong working knowledge of
NFPA 70E , including:
Minimum Approach Distance (MAD)
Ground set placement
PPE requirements and inspections
